Author: Abdelwahab Elmessiri

Abdelwahab Elmessiri, editor and author of the Encyclopedia, obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University, New York and Rutgers University (New Brunswick, N.J.) in English and Comparative Literature. He is Professor Emeritus at Ain Shams University, Academic Advisor of the International Institute of Islamic Thought, Washington D.C., and member of the Board of Directors of the School of Islamic and Social Science, Leesburg Virginia, U.S.A.

He wrote several books (in Arabic) on a Varity of subjects, among which is The End of History: An Introduction to the Structure of Zionist Thought (1973) which he wrote while working as the Head of the Zionist Thought Section and member of the Board of Directors in Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, Cairo. His study of American culture titled "The Earthly Paradise" was published in Beirut in 1979. A two-volume book titled Zionist Ideology: A Case Study in the Sociology of Knowledge was published in Kuwait in 1981

Elmessiri also wrote a number of books in English while serving as a member of the Arab League Permanent Delegation to the United Nations in New York 1974 -1979. His first book, titled "Israel and South Africa: The Progression of a Relationship"  (co-editor) (1976), was followed by "The Land of Promise: A Critique of Political Zionism" (1977). His other publications in English include Three Studies in English Literature (1978), "The Palestinian Wedding: A bilingual Anthology of Palestinian Resistance Poetry" (1983), and "A Land of Stone and Thyme: Palestinian Short Stories" in 1996

After his return from the U.S.A, he resumed his writing in Arabic. Among the books he has published in Arabic in the last ten years were "The Palestinian Intifada", "the Zionist Crisis" and "The Immigration of Soviet Jews" in 1990
